Kindergarten Expectations

First Nine Weeks
Your child will be expected to:
  • Recognize the eight basic colors (red, green, black, blue, purple, brown, yellow, orange)
  • Identify all the capital and lowercase letters
  • Read high-frequency words: I, like, the, and, am, can, it, at, a, is
  • Identifies numbers 0 to 5
  • Identifies basic shapes : circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, oval
  • General development: knows full name, 911 home address, telephone number, birthday (month & year)
  • Work habits: works quietly, works neatly, respects authority, listens attentively, follows directions, completes work, follow rules, stays focused on task, exercises self control, works and plays well with others, exhibits scissor control

 

Second Nine Weeks
Your child will be expected to:
  • Identify all the capital and lowercase letters
  • Identify beginning letter sounds: M, S, A, T, C, P, N, F
  • Read high-frequency words: I, like, the, and, am, can, it, at, a, is, see, we, to, me, come, with, my, you, has, in, not, on
  • Produce rhyming words
  • Produce words with opposite meaning
  • Print letters correctly
  • Identify numbers 0 to 10
  • Count objects to 10
  • Print numbers correctly 0 - 10
  • Identify six basic shapes by viewing a picture of each shape (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, rhombus, oval)
  • Create a pattern
  • General development: knows full name, 911 home address, telephone number, birthday
  • Work habits: works quietly, works neatly, respects authority, listens attentively, follows directions, completes work, follow rules, stays focused on task, exercises self control, works and plays well with others, exhibits scissor control

 

Third Nine Weeks
Your child will be expected to:

  • Identifies beginning letter sounds: M, S, A, T, C, P, N, F, B, I, G, R, D, O, J, X, E, H, K
  • Read high-frequency words: I, like, the, and, am, can, it, at, a, is, see, we, to, me, come, with, my, you, has, in, not, on, what, are, now, how, find, this, will, be, go, for, make, play, said, that
  • Produce rhyming words
  • Produce words with opposite meaning
  • Segment sounds in word
  • Print first and last name (capital for the first letter, lowercase for the rest)
  • Print letters correctly
  • Identify numbers 0-20
  • Count objects 0-20 in setsCount from 0-50 orally without mistakes
  • Print numbers correctly 0-20

  • Read high-frequency words: I, like, the, and, am, can, it, at, a, is, see, we, to, me, come, with, my, you, has, in, not, on, what, are, now, how, find, this, will, be, go, for, make, play, said, that, no, do, down, have, help, look, out, off, take, was, run, good, she, all, he
  • Produce rhyming words
  • Produce words with opposite meaning
  • Segment sounds in words
  • Decode CVC words
  • Begin to write short sentences
  • Print first and last name (capital for the first letter, lowercase for the rest)
  • Print letters correctly
  • Identify numbers 0-31
  • Count objects 0-30 in sets
  • Count from 0-100 orally without mistakes
  • Print numbers correctly 0-31
  • Identify six basic shapes by viewing a picture of each shape (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, rhombus, oval)
  • Create a pattern
  • Tell time to the hour
  • Identify coins: penny, nickel, dime, quarter
  • Solve addition problems using objects
  • Solve subtraction problems using objects
